えっ？これで終わり？的なフランス映画が好き！
私が好きな映画は、正義が悪を滅ぼしてああスッキリ！！という起承転結のはっきりした物しか見ない人が見たら、
「えっ！？これで終わりなの？で、どういう事？」
と思うようなフランス映画が大好きだ。
目を閉じて、今終わったばかりの映画の余韻に浸っている私に
「なに？なに？これって結局さ～・・・・。」
などと解説を始めたり、質問をしたりする人がいる。
そんな時は
「あ～次回は一人で来よう！」と思う。
どんな映画が好きかというと、一番に上げるのはリュックベッソン監督の「グランブルー」だ。
素潜りの達人で実在のモデル、ジャックマイヨールとその友、エンゾとジャックの恋人ジョアンナの人間模様と愛と死とがストーリーの、仏映画っぽい作品だ。
実際にはフランスとイタリアの合作だが、フランス色が強いと思う。
見た人の中には、あの仏映画には禁句の質問
「これって、どういう意味？」
とか
「これで、終わり～～～～？」
みたいな失礼な言い方をする人がいるが、そこを想像するのが映画を観るという事なんじゃないかと思う。
たとえばカンフー映画と言えば、家に帰ったら最愛のおやっさんが何者かに殺されていて、
涙ながらに復習を誓って、トレーニングを積み最後は相手をボコボコにして終わるという感じがほとんどだ。
私は、それはそれで好きだし沢山見たけれど、これは何を意味するんだろうと想像しながら、時には創造しながら進んで行く仏映画の旅というのも良いものだ。
そこには、ストーリーと共に映像美と根底を流れるテーマを見つめながら、無音の映像や
セリフの行間も読み取ろうとする感性が無くては、
「これで終わり～～～～～？」
となってしまう。
「グランブルー」は、好きと嫌いに大きく分かれる映画だと思う。
始めは評価されなかったが、フランスの10代20代の若者の間でヒットした事から、グランブルージェネレーションというムーブメントまで起こした作品だ。
もう何人もの著名な解説者がテーマについても、すでに掘り下げ尽くしているので、私がここで解説するまでも無いが、根底を流れているのは「母親」という存在だ。
それが素潜り漁で父親を亡くし、母も無くイルカを肉親の様に思っている素潜りの世界記録保持者ジャックの心に眠る深い闇の中に感じられる。
また、もっと踏み込めば人間界、自然界を繋ぐ大きな生命体である地球とは？人間とは？というテーマまで考えさせられる映画だ。
ジャックマイヨールは実在の素潜りの世界記録保持者で、イルカの心臓を持つ男と言われていた。
彼のインタビューの中で、「一番深い所に潜った時はどんな感じですか？」と聞かれて
「地球の心臓の音が聞こえる」と言ったそうだ。
地球は生きているんだと。
素潜りの大会で生涯の友であるイタリア人のエンゾの死を目のあたりにし、恋人のジョアンナに自分の子供が出来たと知った時、彼の心の闇は頂点に達する。
そして、恋人に許しを乞い海底深く潜って行く。
危険領域をすっかり超えた地点で、イルカがやって来て彼はイルカに誘導されるようにその場所から去って行くというラストだ。
「え～～～～～っ？？？これってどういう事？この先どうなっちゃうの～～～～？」
と、納得のいかない方は、アメリカ版を見ると良いと思う。
やはり、同じようにこのラストの意味がさっぱり？？？で、どうにもこうにも心の持って行き場が無くなったアメリカ人は、ラストをバッサリ変えてしまった。
一度海底まで沈んだジャックが再び海面に姿を現し、その目線の先には海底で出会ったイルカが海面をはねて泳いでいくというものらしい。
しかし、すごい事をやったもんだと思った。
これだけで、内容はアートから鴨川シーワールドまで行ってしまったような気がする。
わからなければ無理に見ようとせずに、「ダイハード」や「ターミネーター」の様な作品だけ見ればいいのにと思った。
それ自体に価値が無いとは誰も言ってないし、どちらが上とも言っていない。
ただ、フランス映画のこのタイプを観る時は、表面のストーリーだけ見るのではなくて、もっと分厚くものを観ようとする感性が無いと、こういう結果になる。(やはり、わからない人には感性が無いと言っているように聞こえる・・・かな？)
ジャックにとってのイルカは母なるものの象徴で、地球はその存在自体が母親の子宮の様で、ジャックは母親の胎内に戻って行くようにイルカと共に去って行く。
それは終わりの様で､始まりの様でもあると、誰かが書いていたが、まさにそこがこの映画の見どころ、考えどころなのに、そこを変える勇気っていったいどこから湧いて来るのだろう。
私はこの監督のその後の作品が、あまり好きではない。
それはとてもストーリーがはっきりしていて、ある作品に至っては、｢インディジョーンズ｣と「ダイハード」を足して割った様な映画だった。
小劇場の客を捨て、ハリウッドに走ったのだと思った。
でも、そんな事も人生にはあるかもしれない。
フランス的に言えば、セラヴィだ。
自分の生活だけじゃなくて、肉親の負債や病気などを背負っているかもしれないし、(全くの妄想だが・・。)
表面だけ見ちゃいけない映画があるように、人にも色々と奥深い事情があるのだと思いたい。
「グランブルー」は残ったのだから、それで良しとしようと思う。(アメリカ版は、燃えないゴミと化したが・・・。)
というわけで、私はグランブルージェネレーションが生まれた時には、もう立派な社会人だったが、この作品に出会って本当に映画の素晴らしさを再確認したと思う。
また、この映画が世に出なかった頃に、いち早くその価値に気付きムーブメントまで起こしたパリの若者の感性と神秘性についても次回書こうと思っている。
